FIRST PETER 1:3-9
MARK 10:17-27

In today’s gospel, this man desired eternal life. But he did not know himself well. He thought he kept all the commandments, but in fact, he could not even keep the first one: to love God above all gods. He worshipped money as his god. If we cannot keep the first commandment, how can we keep the rest?

Christ invited him to sell his possessions out of love for him. Christ knew that wealth and the abundance of goods were not going to bring him eternal life, in fact these riches would become the main hindrance to eternal life. That is why Christ says in another moment: “You cannot serve two masters, you cannot serve both God and money.”

Let us acknowledge that many of our decisions are made out of consideration for money and not because of God’s will. Money is a false god. Money cannot guarantee “quality of life” or true happiness. Christ did not want this man to be alienated; he wanted him to confront the truth. Today’s gospel says that this man went away sad, but perhaps, this man later realized that his dependence to money were the reason for his sadness. Let’s reflect on this today. Let our joy and eyes be fixed on Heaven.

Finally, we pray for one another, for those who have asked our prayers and for those who need our prayers the most.

Have a good day!
