Many of us have issues with our parents. As young people, we rebel
against their authority. We refuse to keep the traditions they cherish.
As we grow older, we fear to age as they do, ungracefully. We are angry
at their impositions on our lives and our autonomy.
Jesus lived his life in complete contrast to the sullen lot of us, sons
and daughters. He obeyed His Father in everything. He followed His
Father’s will to the bitter end – to death. This was no blind
submission. Each day was lived in close intimacy with God. Many times,
Jesus disappears from the crowds to pray. He must have loved just being
with God. As a result, Fr. Nil Guillemette writes, Jesus is “the
perfect revelation of God given to us in human form.”
This is a good day to think about parents and children. Do not listen
to their tired words and habitual gestures. Do not let familiarity
cloud your sight. Instead, look for the deepest part of them – their
dreams, their memories, their happiness over you, their children.
Finally, think of God. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, God also becomes our
Father. What can we do for our parents today?

Finally,
we pray
for one another, for those who have asked our prayers and for those who
need our prayers the most.
Have a
good day!
